Overview
The European Banking Authority (EBA) is an independent EU authority established on 1 January 2011 by Regulation (EC) No. 1093/2010. Job Description: Statistician
The EBA is seeking a Statistician to support its oversight activities, specifically in the Risk Analysis Unit. The role involves contributing to the development and maintenance of supervisory databases, risk assessment tools, and data dashboards.
Main Purpose
The Statistician will help build the EBA's capacity in collecting, storing, and managing data for risk analysis and stress testing.
Main Responsibilities
- Managing the EBA database and implementing IT solutions for bank analysis
- Conducting regular and ad-hoc data collections and ensuring data quality
- Collaborating with the EBA's IT team and supervisory reporting staff (particularly FINREP and COREP)
- Preparing publication-quality tables and graphs for EBA meetings and publications
- Supporting other oversight activities as needed
Requirements
1. Eligibility Criteria
- Language proficiency: Thorough knowledge of one EU language and satisfactory knowledge of another
- Nationality: Must be a national of an EU Member State, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway
- Legal rights: Full rights as a citizen and fulfilled military service obligations (if applicable)
- Physical fitness: Must be physically fit to perform the duties
- Criminal record: Must provide a certificate confirming no criminal record
- Medical examination: Required to meet Article 12(2)(d) of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants
2. Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Must have completed university studies (diploma)
- Option a: At least 3 years of education with 1 year of professional experience
- Option b: At least 4 years of education with no additional experience required
- Professional experience:
- At least 7 years (for option a) or 6 years (for option b) of relevant full-time experience in fields such as banking supervision, financial data analysis, or related areas
- Language: Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken); knowledge of other EU languages is an advantage
3. Skills
- Statistical knowledge: Understanding of statistical theory and techniques, particularly in the context of banking and financial data
- IT skills: Proficiency in SAS, Stata, SQL, or similar tools
- Office software: Good knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel and Access)
- Graphics and presentation: Ability to create publication-quality visualizations
4. Competencies
- Self-management: Ability to manage workload independently
- Flexibility and adaptability: Quick learner and resourceful in identifying new data sources

Selection Procedure

Appointment and Employment Conditions
- Contract type: Temporary agent fixed-term contract of 3 years with a probation period of 9 months and possible extension

- Salary: Estimated monthly basic salary of €5,568.11
- Tax: Salaries are exempt from national tax, with Community tax at source applied
- Correction coefficient: Currently 34.4% for the UK
- Benefits: May include expatriation allowance, household allowance, dependent child allowance, education allowance, installation allowance, and travel insurance
