The European Banking Authority (EBA) is an independent EU authority established in 2011 under Regulation (EC) No. 1093/2010, with subsequent amendments. The EBA is currently seeking a Bank Expert to work in its London office, focusing on Home-Host Coordination.
Main Responsibilities
The Bank Expert will:
- Promote effective and efficient supervisory activities, including evaluating financial institution risks.
- Support the functioning of supervisory colleges, especially in cross-border banking group oversight.
- Develop technical standards and guidelines for cross-border cooperation.
- Assist internal committees and subgroups, including their chairpersons.
- Facilitate briefings for EBA representatives during meetings with external stakeholders.
- Prepare policy stances and provide advice on supervision and cooperation.
- Perform other tasks as required by the Head of the Home-Host Coordination Unit.
Requirements
1.1 General Eligibility Criteria
- Fluency in one EU language and satisfactory knowledge in another.
- Nationality of an EU Member State, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway.
- Full citizen rights, completion of military service obligations, and physical fitness.
1.2 Specific Eligibility Criteria
1.2.1 Qualifications
- A diploma equivalent to completed university studies (3 or 4 years).
- Recognition of qualifications by EU or EEA authorities, or an equivalent body in the EU.
1.2.2 Professional Experience
- Minimum of 10 years (for 3-year education) or 9 years (for 4-year education) of professional experience.
- At least 3 years in a comparable position related to financial regulation or supervision.
1.2.3 Language Skills
- Excellent knowledge of English (both written and spoken).
- Native English speakers must prove proficiency in a second EU language.
2. Selection Criteria
Candidates must demonstrate:
- Experience in Pillar 2 supervisory review and evaluation.
- Experience in supervisory cooperation for cross-border banking groups.
- Proven knowledge of EU banking regulation.
- Ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
3. Required Competencies

Selection Procedure
- A selection committee will evaluate applications and create a shortlist.
- Shortlisted candidates may undergo written tests (in English, score ≥6/10) and interviews (in English, score ≥6/10).
- Successful candidates will be ranked by merit, with those scoring ≥12 placed on a reserve list valid until 31 December 2014.
Appointment and Employment Conditions
- Contract Type: Temporary fixed-term contract (3 years), with a probation period of 9 months and possible extension.
- Starting Date: Expected to be 1 June 2014.
- Grade: AD 8.
- Estimated Monthly Salary: €6,299.95 (excluding national tax; Community tax applies).
- Benefits: Includes expatriation allowance, annual leave, supplementary home leave, EU pension, sickness and accident insurance, and travel insurance.
