The European Banking Authority (EBA) is seeking a Statistician to join the Statistics Unit within the Economic Analysis and Statistics Department. The position is located in Paris, France, and is a fixed-term contract of three years with the possibility of extension. The candidate will be employed as a Contract Agent in Function Group IV.
Main Purpose
The Statistician will support the EBA in the development and maintenance of supervisory databases and risk assessment tools. They will also perform empirical analyses on the EU banking sector, including stress testing, and contribute to the preparation of reports using advanced statistical techniques.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage the EBA database and implement IT solutions for bank analysis.
- Improve data input for risk assessment and dashboards.
- Coordinate surveys and data collections, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and comparability.
- Prepare reports with statistical analyses using state-of-the-art techniques.
- Participate in activities such as impact assessment, benchmarking of internal models, and stress testing.
- Execute any additional tasks assigned by the Head of the Statistics Unit or the Director of the Economic Analysis and Statistics Department.
Requirements
1. Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Must be a citizen of an EU Member State or the European Economic Area (EEA).
- Citizenship rights: Must have full rights as a citizen.
- Military service: Must have fulfilled any obligations related to military service.
- Language: Must have a thorough knowledge of one official EU language and a satisfactory knowledge of another.
- Physical fitness: Must be physically fit for the role.
2. Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Must have a university degree of at least three years, with a relevant diploma.
- Must have at least one year of full-time professional experience in fields related to the job description.
- Must have excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken.
3. Selection Criteria
- Knowledge of statistical theory and techniques, particularly in banking and financial data.
- Proficiency in MS Office and experience with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
- Competence in statistical software, with a preference for SAS.

Selection Procedure

Appointment and Employment Conditions
- Contract Type and Duration: Fixed-term contract of 3 years, with a 9-month probation period and potential extension.
- Estimated Start Date: 1 December 2019.
- Salary: Monthly basic salary is from €3,462.02. Additional allowances may apply based on family situation and origin.
