Overview
The European Banking Authority (EBA), established on 1 January 2011 by Regulation (EC) No. 1093/2010, is an independent EU authority that plays a key role in enhancing the functioning of the EU internal market. Core Responsibilities
The Legal Officer position is located in the Policy Analysis and Coordination Unit of the EBA and involves:

- Supporting oversight activities in dispute resolution and mediation, including drafting supervisory recommendations.
- Conducting legal analysis of financial regulatory and supervisory proposals.
- Participating in EBA working groups and cooperating with other ESAs.
- Performing other related tasks as assigned by the Head of the Unit.
Eligibility Criteria
General Requirements
- Proficiency in at least one EU language and satisfactory knowledge in another.
- Nationality of an EU Member State, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway.
- Full citizen rights and no criminal record.
- Compliance with military service obligations.
- Physical fitness for the role.
Specific Requirements
1.2.1 Qualifications
Candidates must hold a law degree and have at least:
- Option A: 3 years of university education with at least 1 year of relevant professional experience.
- Option B: 4 years of university education with no additional professional experience required.
1.2.2 Professional Experience
- Option A: Minimum of 7 years of full-time professional experience after obtaining the degree.
- Option B: Minimum of 6 years of full-time professional experience after obtaining the degree.
1.2.3 Language Skills
- Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken).
Selection Criteria
Candidates must demonstrate:
- Proven knowledge of EU banking regulation.
- Experience in drafting regulatory-related documents (memos, briefings, etc.).
- Legal analysis experience in financial regulatory and supervisory proposals.
- Experience working in a legal department dealing with financial legislation.
- Experience engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.
Desirable qualifications include:
- Experience providing legal advice to senior management.
- Experience in cross-border banking group supervision and supervisory colleges.

Selection Procedure
The process includes:
- Establishment of the Selection Committee

Appointment and Employment Conditions
- Contract Type: Temporary agent fixed-term contract of 3 years with a 6-month probation period and possible extension.
- Expected Start Date: 1 May 2013.
- Grade: AD 7.
- Estimated Monthly Salary: €5,568.11 (basic salary, tax-exempt with Community tax at source).
- Benefits: Includes expatriation allowance, household allowance, dependent child allowance, education allowance, and others based on family situation and origin.
- Leave Entitlement: 2 days per calendar month plus additional days based on age, grade, and distance from origin.
- Insurance: EU Pension Scheme, sickness and accident insurance, unemployment and invalidity allowance, and travel insurance for missions.
