报告摘要
Benin conducted the STEPS Survey 2008 from August to September 2008 to assess chronic disease risk factors among adults aged 25-64. This population-based survey, with a cluster sampling design, involved 6,904 participants and included three steps:
-
Step 1 collected sociodemographic and behavioral data: tobacco use (e.g., males have high smoking rates), alcohol consumption (males more likely to binge drink), fruit and vegetable intake (less than five servings daily is common), and physical activity levels (males higher activity). Key findings show high tobacco and alcohol use among males, low fruit/vegetable consumption across all groups, and varying activity levels based on gender.
-
Step 2 measured physical health: mean BMI was 23.6, with obesity prevalence at 9.4% overall; blood pressure showed high rates of raised BP (around 28.7%), influencing many for chronic disease risks.
-
Step 3 included biochemical measures, such as fasting blood glucose and cholesterol, with low rates of impaired glucose but notable high cholesterol in some groups.
Summary highlights that combinations of risk factors (e.g., smoking, overweight, low activity, high BP) affect different age and gender groups significantly, with the highest burden seen in middle-aged adults aged 45-64 years. The overall prevalence of multiple risk factors indicates a high chronic disease burden, informing public health strategies.
