报告摘要
Mali conducted the STEPS Survey in 2007 to assess chronic disease risk factors among adults aged 15-64 years. The survey involved a multi-stage cluster sampling design and included 2,810 participants across three steps: Step 1 collected socio-demographic and behavioral data on smoking, alcohol use, fruit and vegetable consumption, and physical activity; Step 2 included physical measurements like BMI, waist circumference, and blood pressure; and Step 3 assessed blood glucose levels.
Key findings show high prevalence of smoking among males, with about 30% being current daily smokers starting young; alcohol consumption is low, with 96.9% abstaining and only 3.1% drinking; fruit and vegetable intake is generally low, with most individuals consuming less than five servings per day; physical activity levels are low, with men showing comparatively lower activity; obesity rates are significant, with over 34% of adults overweight and 13% obese; blood pressure elevation affects 15.9% of participants, with higher rates in women. A concerning proportion—31-52%—have at least three combined risk factors, including smoking, poor diet, low activity, and high blood pressure, and this is more common in older age groups.
The survey highlights major chronic disease risks and suggests a need for public health interventions targeting lifestyle factors in Mali.
