报告摘要
Summary of the 2004 Chile (Region I) Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS)
The 2004 GSHS in Chile Region I surveyed students aged 13-15 years (grades 7° and 8° primary, and 1° secondary), with a sample of 2033 participants and overall response rate of 86%. The survey aimed to assess risk behaviors across various health domains, including alcohol and drug use, dietary habits, hygiene, mental health, physical activity, tobacco use, sexual behaviors, unintentional injuries, and violence.
Key findings highlight significant issues among students:
-
Alcohol and Drug Use: High prevalence, with 25.6% reporting alcohol consumption in the past 30 days, including 17.9% getting drunk at least once in their lifetime, and 9.0% using drugs at least once.
-
Dietary Behaviours and Overweight: Notable problems, such as 31.4% of boys being overweight, 5.8% obese, and only 1.5% reporting hunger due to lack of food at home, indicating dietary challenges.
-
Hygiene: Poor handwashing habits, with 6.0% never or rarely washing hands before eating, and 1.3% not doing so after using the toilet.
-
Mental Health: Elevated concerns, including 14.2% feeling lonely most of the time, 20.6% considering suicide, and 7.3% having no close friends.
-
Physical Activity: Low levels of activity, with only 13.4% meeting the 60-minute daily target for all seven days, while 48.6% engaged in excessive sitting.
-
Tobacco Use: Common, with 20.2% smoking cigarettes on at least one day in the past 30 days, and 76.1% exposed to smoking in their presence.
-
Sexual Behaviours: Approximately 13.3% had sexual intercourse, with higher rates among boys, and condom use reported for 48.1% of those who had intercourse.
-
Unintentional Injuries and Violence: High incidence, including 35.2% involved in physical fights and 46.7% bullied in the past 30 days.
The data reveal widespread risks to student health, with notable gender differences in some behaviors, calling for targeted interventions to address substance use, mental health, diet, activity levels, and safety.
