报告摘要
Armenia Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) in 2004 focused on tobacco use among 13-15-year-olds in grades 6-9, using a two-stage cluster sample with an 84.7% overall response rate and 1,300 participants. The survey explored use, access determinants, secondhand smoke exposure, cessation, media, and school education.
Key highlights include:
- High smoking initiation: 46.5% started smoking before age 10, and 98.2% of never smokers plan to start next year.
- Gender disparities: Boys (41.0%) were more likely than girls (10.4%) to have ever smoked cigarettes.
- Current use: 5.0% smoke cigarettes, with boys at 10.3% and girls at 0.9%. Overall, 7.3% use any tobacco product.
- Access issues: 90.3% support smoking bans in public places, indicating strong attitudes against tobacco.
- Secondhand smoke exposure: Over 89.8% lived in homes with smoking others; 64.9% viewed smoke as harmful.
- Media influence: 73.0% were exposed to anti-smoking messages on TV versus pro-messages, while 4.0% were offered free cigarettes.
- School-based factors: 31.1% received education on smoking dangers, and 37.1% discussed smoking reasons in class.
This data underscores a pressing youth tobacco epidemic, emphasizing the need for prevention and control strategies tailored to Armenian youth.
