报告摘要
Fiji STEPS Survey Summary
- Conducted from February to May 2002, studied chronic disease risk factors for adults aged 15-64 using multi-stage cluster sampling with 6794 participants.
Step 1: Behavioural Risks
- Tobacco use: Males had higher daily smoking prevalence (26%) compared to females (3.9%), with males starting smoking earlier on average and smoking for longer periods. Females smoked more manufactured cigarettes.
- Alcohol consumption: Slightly over half of current drinkers met criteria for risky drinking, with women showing higher risky consumption rates.
- Fruit and vegetable intake: Both genders had low consumption, with percentages below one serving per day.
- Physical activity: For leisure, males had low activity levels (49%), while females were more active (70.2%).
Step 2: Physical Measurements
- BMI and weight: Males had a mean BMI of 24.2, females 26.7, with obesity higher in females (26.4% vs. 9.8%).
- Blood pressure: Average systolic and diastolic pressures were normotensive, but raised BP affected both genders.
Step 3: Biochemical Measurements
- Blood glucose: Most participants had normal fasting blood glucose levels.
- Cholesterol: High prevalence of raised cholesterol (49.1% males, 37.8% females).
Combined Risk Factors Summary
- Overall: High percentage of adults (72.4% ages 25-44, 82.8% ages 45-64) had at least three risk factors, including smoking, overweight/obesity, insufficient activity, or raised BP. Risk increased with age.
