报告摘要
Albania GYTS Summary (2009)
The 2009 Global Youth Tobacco Survey in Albania surveyed 3,751 students aged 13-15 from grades 8-9 and high school, using a two-stage cluster sampling design with 100% school and class response rates but 86.9% overall student response rate.
Key findings highlight high tobacco use among youth. Ever smoked cigarettes prevalence was 50.3%, with higher rates in boys (65.6%) than girls (37.4%). Current tobacco use stood at 11.5%, including cigarettes and other forms. Over a third of respondents initiated smoking before age 10, and future smoking likelihood was high among never-smokers.
Exposure to secondhand smoke was common, with nearly half living in smoking-permissive homes and high levels of harmful perceptions and parental/friend influence. Cessation efforts showed that most current smokers wanted to quit, with high smoking-cessation attempts and support evidence.
Media and educational factors were significant. Barely two-thirds saw anti-tobacco messages, while pro-tobacco ads appeared frequently. School-based programs covered tobacco dangers and reasons for smoking, with positive engagement reported.
This data underscores critical determinants for Albania's tobacco control policies.
