Summary of Monthly Oil & Gas Data Review (December 2023)
Oil Highlights:
- Oil demand reached a seasonal record high for a sixth consecutive month in October, up 4 mb/d year-on-year due to gains in China and the US, with China's crude imports increasing by 402 kb/d m/m to 11.56 mb/d.
- Crude production decreased by 1.6 mb/d year-on-year, falling below the five-year average, primarily due to Saudi Arabia's 2 mb/d drop.
- Crude and refined product inventories showed a small net build in October, remaining 285 million barrels below the five-year average.
Gas Highlights:
- Natural gas production set an all-time high in October, led by increases in Australia, Norway, and China.
- Natural gas demand rose seasonally and was at the top of the five-year seasonal range.
- Total gas inventories increased by 15.6 bcm month-on-month and exceeded the five-year average.
- EU+UK gas demand stayed below seasonal levels, helping inventories end October nearly 99% full.
