Overview

The 2007 GSHS was a school-based survey in grades 7, 8, 9, and 10, focusing on health behaviors in Colombia (Bogotá, official schools). It measured alcohol and drug use, dietary behaviors, physical activity, sexual behaviors related to HIV and STIs, tobacco use, unintentional injuries, and violence. Data was collected from students aged 13–15 years with a response rate of 87%. Methodology: A two-stage cluster sample was used, with a 97% school response rate and 90% student response rate. Total participants: 1,170, but analyses included only 13–15-year-olds.

Alcohol and Other Drug Use

• Percentage who consumed alcohol: 57.5% (boys: 55.8%, girls: 58.6%).
• Percentage who had a hangover or consequences from drinking: around 20–22%.
• Percentage who used drugs in life: 10% (boys: 13.7%, girls: 8.0%).

Dietary Behaviours and Overweight

• Percentage who went hungry due to lack of food: around 1–2%.

Physical Activity

• Percentage meeting daily physical activity guidelines: 15–17%.
• Percentage spending ≥3 hours/day in sedentary activities: around 48–50%.

Sexual Behaviours (HIV/STIs/Pregnancy)

• Percentage who had ever had sexual intercourse: 24.2%.
• Percentage who had unprotected sex among those who had sex: around 50–55%.
• Percentage who had sex with multiple partners: 14.5–25.0%.

Tobacco Use

• Percentage who smoked cigarettes: 20% (boys: 20.8%, girls: 20.3%).
• Percentage who used other tobacco products: 8–9%.
• Percentage exposed to smoking at home: around 70–72%.

Unintentional Injuries and Violence

• Percentage who were physically attacked: 30–37%.
• Percentage involved in physical fights: 39–53%.
• Percentage severely injured: around 30%.
• Percentage bullied in the past 30 days: 33–36%.

Note: Data includes standard errors, and some analyses had fewer than 100 students.
