This report details the findings from the 2007 Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS) conducted in Valledupar City, Colombia, specifically for students aged 13–15. The survey assessed health behaviors and risks, including alcohol and drug use, dietary habits, physical activity, sexual behaviors, tobacco use, unintentional injuries, and violence. Conducted in grades 7–10, the study used a two-stage cluster sampling method, achieving a school response rate of 97%, student response rate of 88%, and an overall response rate of 86%, with 2,095 participants. - Sexual Behaviours: Nearly 24% had ever had sexual intercourse, and among them, about 51% used condoms for their last encounter. Students reported varied lifetime exposure to multiple partners.
- Tobacco Use: 4.2% smoked cigarettes, and 2.8% used other tobacco products in the past 30 days. 62% were exposed to smoking in their presence over the last week.
- Unintentional Injuries and Violence: High rates were observed, with 23% experiencing physical attacks, 30% involved in fights, and 34% receiving serious injuries in the past year, along with 31% reporting bullying in the last 30 days.
