Development and availability status of variant1 influenza A(H1) candidate vaccine viruses and potency testing reagents is monitored by WHO Collaborating Centers for antigenic and genetic analyses. Unless specified all candidate vaccine viruses have passed two-way haemagglutination inhibition tests. Vaccines are approved by national or regional control authorities. The viruses are safe for handling under BSL-2 enhanced containment.

Available candidate vaccine viruses include:

• A/Ohio/24/2017(H1N2)v from CDC, USA.
• A/Ohio/9/2015(H1N1)v via CDC and WHO CCs.
• A/Hunan/42443/2015(H1N1)v via CCDC, China.
• A/Michigan/383/2018(H1N2)v from CDC and WHO CCs.

Viruses in preparation include:

• A/California/71/2021(H1N2)v, pending.
• Other pending strains listed, such as those from CDC, MHRA, and SJCRH.
