Overview
The European Banking Authority (EBA) offers a traineeship opportunity in its Prudential Regulation and Supervisory Policy Department or Policy Coordination Unit. The EBA: Authority and Mission
The EBA was established on 1 January 2011 by Regulation (EU) No. 1093/2010. Activities and Responsibilities
Trainees in the Prudential Regulation and Supervisory Policy Department will be involved in the following activities:
- Capital, liquidity, leverage ratio, and large exposures requirements
- Resolution requirements
- Accounting aspects for banks
- Risk assessment (credit, market, operational)
- Internal governance and risk management
- Pillar 2 risk assessment framework
- Review of capital instruments and MREL liabilities oversight
- Benchmarking of internal models
Trainees in the Policy Coordination Unit will focus on:
- Governance support
- Coordination with EU institutions and external stakeholders
- Planning and control of the EBA's multi-annual work programme
- Document management policy and system
- Training coordination for supervisors
- Standardised Q&A process
- External and internal communication management
Areas of Engagement
Trainees may be assigned to different units based on their background, education, and skills:

Liquidity Leverage Loss Absorbency and Capital Unit:
- Regulatory work on MREL
- Quantitative benchmarking or data analysis for MREL and IFRS9
- Monitoring of MREL eligible liabilities
- Preparation of internal briefings and presentations

Risk Based Metrics Unit:
- Regulatory work on credit, market, or operational risk
- Quantitative benchmarking analysis of credit risk (IRB) or market risk internal models
- Participation in internal committees and subgroups
- Preparation of briefings for EBA representation at external meetings

Supervisory Review, Recovery and Resolution:
- Preparation of supervisory and resolution colleges
- Data analysis and monitoring
- Support for internal and external training
- Briefings for EBA representation at meetings with policy makers and regulatory bodies
Requirements
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a national of an EU Member State, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or a candidate country.
- Must have completed the first cycle of higher university education in fields relevant to the EBA's remit and obtained a full degree certificate by the application deadline.
- Must have very good knowledge of English (at least B2 level according to CEFR).
- Must not have benefited from in-service training within EU institutions or bodies.
- Must have no prior full-time professional work experience, except for paid part-time or full-time experience during studies.
Selection Criteria
- Hold a Master's degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, Statistics, or be in ongoing PhD studies.
- Have a graduate thesis related to the EBA's activities.
- Demonstrate good drafting skills in English (e.g., in studies, presentations, articles, or document revision).
