The European Banking Authority (EBA) is offering a traineeship opportunity in the Banking Markets, Innovation and Consumers Department. Department Overview

The EBA's Banking Markets, Innovation and Consumers Department consists of three main units:

Reporting, Loan Management and Transparency Unit: Responsible for setting reporting requirements, defining Pillar 3 disclosure requirements, and overseeing the consistency of implementation. It also focuses on the accounting and prudential treatment of assets, especially lending standards and non-performing loans (NPLs).
Banking Markets, Innovation and Products Unit: Engages in work related to the Capital Markets Union (CMU), including securitisation, covered bonds, and sustainable finance. It also monitors financial innovation, FinTech, regulatory perimeter, and cybersecurity, as well as authorisation and equivalence assessments.
Conduct, Payments and Consumer Unit: Deals with the conduct of financial institutions, including anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF), depositor and consumer protection, payment services, and the monitoring of financial innovations from a consumer perspective.

Areas of Engagement

Trainees may be involved in the following activities, depending on their background and skills:

Reporting, Valuations and Transparency Unit:
- Thematic work and ad hoc analysis on loan management, non-performing exposures, and valuation.
- Assessment of Pillar 3 disclosures.
- Thematic reviews of the quality of reported data.
Banking Markets, Innovation and Products Unit:
- Contribution to the work related to the Capital Markets Union.
- Monitoring of financial innovation and FinTech.
- Support for the EBA FinTech Knowledge Hub.
- Analysis of authorisation and sandboxing approaches.
- Contribution to equivalence assessments.
Conduct, Payments and Consumers Unit:
- Monitoring of financial institutions' conduct, including AML/CTF.
- Depositor protection.
- Payment services and consumer protection.
- Oversight of financial innovations from a consumer protection angle.

Requirements

1.1 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be nationals of EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or candidate countries with pre-accession status.
They must have completed the first cycle of a higher university education and obtained a full degree certificate or its equivalent by the application deadline.
They must have very good knowledge of English (at least B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

1.2 Selection Criteria

A Master’s degree in Law, Finance, or Banking.
A graduate thesis on topics related to the department's activities.
Good drafting skills in English, demonstrated through examples such as studies, presentations, articles, or document revisions.

Advantages include being aware of and interested in the EBA’s role and functioning, as well as having good organisation and prioritisation skills.
