报告摘要
Comoros Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) was conducted in 2007 among students aged 13-15 in grades 6ème to 3ème using a two-stage cluster sample design. A total of 811 students participated, with a response rate of 80.8%. The survey examined tobacco use prevalence and determinants, such as access, price, secondhand smoke exposure, cessation efforts, media advertising, and school-based interventions.
Key findings include high prevalence of tobacco use: 26.5% had ever smoked cigarettes, with 18.1% currently using any tobacco product (including 9.6% smoking cigarettes and 11.4% using other products), and gender disparities were evident, with higher rates among boys. Secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure was significant, affecting over 66% of students due to household and public exposure. Attitudes were largely supportive of smoking bans in public places, with nearly 80% endorsing such policies. Media exposure involved both anti-smoking and pro-cigarette advertisements. School-based components, including education on smoking dangers, were present in some classes. The survey underscores the substantial tobacco use and related risks among youth in Comoros, calling for enhanced prevention and control strategies.
