Survey Overview
- The Myanmar Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) was a 2007 study based on a school sample from grades 7-10, totaling 2,007 students aged 13-15. It used a two-stage cluster sampling design with high response rates (100% school/class, 95.2% student), producing nationally representative data on tobacco use and determinants.

Tobacco Use Prevalence:
- 14.7% of students ever smoked cigarettes (boys: 23.4%, girls: 6.3%).
- 15.3% currently used any tobacco product (boys: 22.5%, girls: 8.2%); this includes 4.9% smoking cigarettes and 14.1% using other products.
- 11.4% of never smokers are likely to initiate smoking next year.
