Overview
The Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) in Sudan focused on students aged 13-15 in grades 8, 1st secondary, and 2nd secondary, conducted in 2009. It employed a two-stage cluster sample design with a total of 950 participants. Response rates were high, with 100% school and class response, and 88.8% student response.

- Initiation Risk: 18.7% of never-smokers likely initiate smoking next year.
- Secondhand Smoke (SHS) Exposure: Exposure is low; 27.6% live in homes where others smoke, and 33.1% are exposed in other places. 82.1% support banning smoking in public places, and 73.1% believe SHS is harmful.
