报告摘要
Mobile money usage in Uganda affects perceptions about cash and financial inclusion. Users are more inclined to perceive cash as risky and less likely to carry large amounts, though the impact is small. Financially, mobile money users send and receive remittances, save, and borrow more frequently and in larger amounts than non-users. However, no statistically significant difference was found in the actual amounts of remittances sent compared to predictions.
The study used data from the 2018 Uganda FinScope survey and employed propensity score matching to reduce selection bias. It found that while mobile money adoption is correlated with increased transactions and savings, the actual remittance amounts did not show significant differences. The results suggest that digital payments may slowly reduce cash usage but maintain its role as a store of value due to infrastructure challenges. Further research with updated data is encouraged to confirm these findings.
