- Access/Availability: 25.2% of students bought cigarettes in stores; parental smoking (33.2% have parents who smoke) and peer smoking (10.6% have friends who smoke) were significant influences.
- Exposure to Secondhand Smoke (SHS): 34.3% lived in homes with others smoking; 43.3% were exposed to smoke outside the home; 86.6% believed SHS should be banned in public places.
- Knowledge and Attitudes: 75.9% acknowledged the harm of SHS; 86.6% favored public smoking bans.
Media and Advertising Exposure
- 82.1% saw anti-smoking media messages in the past 30 days.
- 58.1% viewed pro-cigarette ads on billboards; 47.1% saw them in newspapers or magazines.
- Only 8.0% had objects with cigarette brand logos, indicating limited commercial exposure impact.
Cessation and School Factors
- Among current smokers, 54.8% wanted to quit; 63.3% had attempted cessation in the past year; 73.4% received help to stop.
