2011 Algeria Urban Global School-based Student Health Survey Summary
The survey was conducted in 2011 among students in grades 2 to 4, focusing on data from 13-15-year-olds for analysis. A random cluster sampling design ensured representativeness, with a 100% school response rate, 99% student response rate, and 2314 participants. Key health issues identified include high rates of overweight and obesity, inadequate physical activity, low drug use, poor hygiene habits, and significant tobacco use among boys.
- Dietary Behaviours: Overweight prevalence was around 14.7%, with high carbonated soft drink consumption (78.2% drank daily).

- Tobacco Use: High smoking rates in boys (19.5%), with early initiation common.
- Violence and Unintentional Injury: Widespread physical fights (47.7%) and bullying (50.7%).
