Thailand 2015 Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS) Summary
Overview
The 2015 Thailand Private GSHS was a school-based survey targeting students in Grades 7-12, typically aged 13-17 years. It employed a two-stage cluster sampling method, where schools were selected based on enrollment size and classes were randomly chosen. The survey collected data on various health-related behaviors and factors, including alcohol use, dietary behaviors, drug use, hygiene, mental health, physical activity, protective factors, sexual behaviors, tobacco use, and violence and unintentional injury. A total of 3,386 students participated, with a school response rate of 97%, student response rate of 91%, and an overall response rate of 88%.

- 20.4% (16.7-24.6%) were overweight.
- 7.2% (5.4-9.6%) were obese.
- 53.4% (45.6-61.1%) usually drank carbonated soft drinks one or more times per day.

- 10.2% (7.6-13.6%) were underweight.
- 15.5% (11.4-20.7%) were overweight.
- 5.4% (3.4-8.4%) were obese.

Hygiene

- 94.5% (92.2-96.2%) usually cleaned or brushed their teeth.
- 7.9% (6.2-10.1%) never or rarely washed their hands after using the toilet or latrine.

- 96.6% (94.2-98.0%) usually cleaned or brushed their teeth.
- 6.1% (4.3-8.6%) never or rarely washed their hands after using the toilet or latrine.

- 95.1% (92.9-96.7%) usually cleaned or brushed their teeth.
- 7.4% (5.7-9.5%) never or rarely washed their hands after using the toilet or latrine.
Mental Health

Students Aged 13-15 Years:
- 11.2% (8.5-14.7%) seriously considered attempting suicide in the past 12 months.
- 13.4% (10.4-17.1%) attempted suicide one or more times.
- 6.5% (4.6-9.2%) had no close friends.

- 11.4% (8.8-14.5%) seriously considered attempting suicide.
- 11.0% (7.9-15.2%) attempted suicide one or more times.

- 14.5% (11.9-17.6%) were physically active at least 60 minutes per day on all 7 days.

- 25.8% (20.5-32.0%) were involved in a physical fight.
