报告摘要
Summary of Global School-based Student Health Survey, Guatemala (Capital City Private), 2009
Objective
The 2009 Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS) in Guatemala (Capital City Private) measured key health behaviors and attitudes among students, including alcohol use, dietary behaviors, hygiene, mental health, physical activity, and sexual behaviors. It aimed to provide data representative of students aged 13-15 years.
Survey Design
A two-stage cluster sample design was used to select schools proportionally to enrollment size and classes randomly. The school response rate was 87%, student response rate was 87%, and overall response rate was 76%. A total of 1463 students participated, clustered in grades primero, segundo, and tercero basico.
Analysis Sample
For this fact sheet, only data from students aged 13-15 years are included.
Overview of Key Results
The survey findings highlight varied health behaviors between genders:
- Alcohol Use: About 25.7% of students drank alcohol at least once in the past 30 days, with boys showing higher rates than girls.
- Dietary Behaviors: Overweight and obesity were common issues, with roughly 32-37% of students classified as over or obese.
- Hygiene: Most students reported poor tooth-brushing and hand-washing habits, indicating room for improvement.
- Mental Health: A significant proportion, around 14-18%, seriously considered or attempted suicide, and fewer than half reported close friends.
- Physical Activity: Students were insufficiently active, spending more time on sedentary activities, and attending physical education class infrequently.
- Sexual Behaviours: Fewer than 15% reported ever having sexual intercourse, with condom use for the last act varying.
