报告摘要
Belize Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) conducted in 2002 among 13-15-year-old students aimed to assess tobacco use prevalence and determinants. Key findings include high rates of ever smoking cigarettes (37.9%), with boys (47.4%) higher than girls (28.4%); 18.1% currently use any tobacco product, and 14.7% smoke cigarettes now. Additionally, 18.6% of never smokers are likely to start smoking next year. Exposure to secondhand smoke (SHS) is widespread, with 36.6% living where others smoke, and 60.3% exposed externally; most think SHS is harmful and support smoking bans in public places. Media influence is strong, with high visibility of pro-tobacco ads and brand logos; 76.1% of current smokers want to quit, but cessation help is low. School-based data shows some education on smoking dangers. Sampling used a two-stage cluster design with strong response rates, yielding insights for comprehensive tobacco control programs.
