COVID-19 has severely impacted Southeast Asia's aviation industry, causing an over 80% drop in passenger traffic during 2020-2022. Financial challenges arose from government restrictions, with limited support for airlines, leading to bankruptcies and restructuring. Infrastructure weaknesses, such as airline navigation systems and overcapacity issues, further hindered recovery. Opportunities lie in air cargo, sustainable aviation fuel, and regional connectivity. Key recommendations include increasing worker recruitment and safety standards, liberalizing aviation policies, and promoting drone and electric aircraft technology. Focus should shift to new source markets like India and Australia, domestic point-to-point routes, and cargo to drive future aviation growth.
