Pathways to climate-resilient net zero supply chains
A guide for global agrifood businesses
Key Provisions
Business Case for Climate Action
Global agrifood businesses face severe disruptions due to climate risks, which threaten supply chains, increase costs, and exacerbate equity issues. Investing in climate-resilient supply chains offers multiple benefits, including cost savings, new business opportunities, alignment with national climate priorities (NDCs/NAPs), and enhanced corporate reputation.
Climate Resilience & Net Zero Framework
The framework consists of four core steps:
- Build Management Commitment: Secure executive buy-in, integrate climate policies, and leverage partnerships for supplier engagement.
- Implement Adaptation Strategies: Assess climate risks, set adaptation targets, and deploy solutions like drought-resistant crops and improved water management.
- Reduce GHG Emissions: Map supply chain emissions, set science-based targets (especially for Scope 3), and implement mitigation actions such as regenerative agriculture and renewable energy transitions.
- Track and Disclose Progress: Enhance transparency through MRV systems and align reporting with national and international standards (e.g., TCFD, SBTi).
Forward-Looking Recommendations
Businesses should align climate strategies with national NDCs and NAPs, strengthen public-private collaboration, overcome data constraints, and prioritize transformative innovation to achieve net zero goals.
