报告摘要
Findings from Gabon's Diabetes Profile
Population and income
Gabon's population is 1.7 million, categorized as upper middle income.
Mortality data
Diabetes-related deaths are significant, with 160 male and 150 female deaths among those aged 30–69 years; total diabetes deaths exceed 410. High blood glucose deaths attributed 310 male and 410 female deaths in the same age group. For ages 70+, diabetes deaths increased to 540 overall, while high blood glucose deaths rose to 790. Mortality estimates have high uncertainty due to lack of national data.
Disease burden proportions
Among various causes of death, diabetes contributes 35%, followed by injuries at 8%, cardiovascular diseases at 30%, cancer at 25%, and other non-communicable diseases at 2%. Age-standardized trends in diabetes prevalence suggest worsening conditions.
Risk factors prevalence
Diabetes affects 8.1% of the population. High prevalence includes overweight (41.3%) and obesity (15.8%), alongside 24.5% reporting physical inactivity.
National response
Few operational policies or guidelines for diabetes response were noted in surveys, and several health indicators remain unreported. Medicines like insulin, blood glucose measurement, or obesity treatments are often unavailable, constrained by limited healthcare infrastructure.
