报告摘要
Samoa has a total population of 193,000 and is classified in the lower middle income group. Data on diabetes-related mortality is limited, with information on deaths attributable to high blood glucose indicating gaps, especially for males and females across age groups. Age-standardized diabetes prevalence trends suggest increasing concerns, with overall prevalence at 22.8% and higher rates in females. Risk factors include high prevalence of overweight (72.0%) and obesity (41.6%) as well as physical inactivity. In terms of national response, no operational policies or guidelines exist for diabetes or related risk factors like overweight, obesity, and physical inactivity. Essential healthcare resources such as insulin, blood glucose measurement tools, and procedures like retinal examinations or renal replacement therapies are largely unavailable in the public health sector, reflecting deficiencies in country capacity based on WHO data.
