ASEAN Economic Community Strategic Plan 2026–2030 Summary
The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Strategic Plan 2026–2030 outlines a comprehensive roadmap to advance ASEAN's economic integration and align with Vision 2045. Established in 1967 with ten member states, ASEAN aims to become a resilient, innovative, and people-centred community by 2045, potentially achieving the status of the fourth-largest global economy. This plan addresses emerging challenges like geopolitical tensions, climate change, and technological shifts, while emphasizing sustainability, digital transformation, and inclusive growth.
Key Objectives and Strategic Goals
The plan encompasses six Strategic Goals:
- An Action-Oriented Community: Focuses on integrating a single market, boosting competitiveness through trade liberalization, digital transformation, and services integration.
- A Sustainable Community: Prioritizes climate adaptation, green economy initiatives, energy security, and sustainable resource management to foster long-term resilience.
- An Enterprising, Bold, and Innovative Community: Targets innovation, digital infrastructure, intellectual property protection, and creative economy development to enhance competitiveness.
- An Adaptable and Pro-Active Community: Aims to strengthen global partnerships, maintain ASEAN centrality, and ensure regional economic cooperation with external partners.
- A Nimble and Resilient Community: Focuses on supply chain stability, macroeconomic resilience, and inclusive training to withstand shocks and crises.
- An Inclusive, Participatory, and Collaborative Community: Ensures no development gap is left behind, enhancing participation of vulnerable groups and fostering partnerships.
It includes 44 Objectives and 192 Strategic Measures across various sectors, such as trade, investment, innovation, and environmental sustainability.
Implementation and Review
Implementation involves collaboration between ASEAN Sectoral Bodies, with monitoring through a results-based system led by the ASEAN Economic Community Council (AECC). The plan will be reviewed every five years, with monitoring and evaluation ensuring progress tracking and adaptation to emerging trends. Resource mobilization strategies and risk management protocols are embedded to support effective execution.
This Strategic Plan represents ASEAN's commitment to global economic engagement and regional prosperity, scheduled for implementation from 2026 to 2030.
