Part 1: Overall Market Performance

In August 2021, domestic mobile phone shipments totaled 24.3 million units, a 9.7% year-over-year decline. The number of new models released was 57, up 50.0% year-over-year. Cumulatively from January to August, shipments reached 227.1 million units with a 12.3% year-over-year increase, while new model releases totalled 296, a slight 0.7% rise.

Part 2: 5G Mobile Phone Development

August 2021 saw 5G mobile phone shipments of 17.7 million units, accounting for 72.8% of total shipments. Year-to-date, 5G shipments were 168.3 million units, with a market share of 74.1% and 148 new model releases.

Part 3: Brand Dynamics

In August, local brands shipped 22.8 million units, down 6.7% year-over-year and representing 93.8% of total shipments. New models by local brands increased by 37.1% year-over-year. For the first eight months, local brand shipments were 204.1 million, up 10.6% year-over-year. MNC brands held a small 6.2% market share.

Part 4: Smartphone Segment

August smartphone shipments were 23.1 million units, a 9.9% year-over-year decrease but accounting for 95.0% of total shipments. New smartphone models released totaled 51, up 82.1% year-over-year. Cumulatively, first-eight-month shipments for smartphones were 221.8 million, up 13.3% year-over-year.
