Summary of GLASS Report

GLASS is a global system designed to collect, analyze, and share data on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial use (AMU) to support global health objectives, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals. As of April 2021, GLASS enrolled 107 countries, with significant progress in data reporting. From 2017 to 2020, the number of surveillance sites and patients increased, with many low-income countries improving AMR data submission. However, constraints include limited data on multi-drug resistance, poor completeness and representativeness in some systems, and reliance on routine clinical sampling.

Moving forward, GLASS aims to enhance country capacity, use complementary strategies like surveys and new technologies for better data quality, and collaborate with organizations like FAO and OIE to integrate surveillance. The goal is to consolidate these efforts to address AMR threats effectively, ensuring no country is left behind.
