Tobacco Use: 13.0% of students aged 13-15 used any tobacco products in 2016, with higher rates among boys (15.3%) than girls (10.7%). Among these, 11.8% smoked tobacco, including cigarettes (at least 8.0%) and other types, while 2.1% used smokeless tobacco. Frequent smoking was low.

Electronic Cigarettes: 10.7% of students reported using electronic cigarettes.

Cessation Efforts: 56.8% of current tobacco smokers attempted to quit in the past 12 months, with 51.4% wanting to stop immediately.

Secondhand Smoke Exposure: Roughly 16.7% of students were exposed to tobacco smoke at home, and 31.5% in enclosed public places.

Media Exposure: 38.7% of students noticed tobacco advertisements or promotions at points of sale, while 60.4% noticed anti-tobacco messages in the media.

Knowledge and Attitudes: Many students recognized the harms of tobacco use, with 28.9% believing it is harmful, but some perceived barriers to quitting, such as difficulty stopping once started. Trust in school education on tobacco dangers was high at 64.9%.
The survey had a high response rate of 83.9% and was conducted by national ministries, providing key data for tobacco control efforts under the WHO FCTC framework.
