Global School-based Student Health Survey: Argentina (La Pampa) - 2012 Fact Sheet Summary
The 2012 Argentina (La Pampa) Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS) assessed adolescent health behaviors among students in specific grades.
Survey Design and Response:
- A two-stage cluster sampling design was used.
- 100% of target schools participated.
- 80% of eligible students responded (overall response rate).
- Data presented reflect students aged 13-15 years only.
- 1479 students participated.
Key Findings by Category:

8. Sexual Behaviours: Nearly one-third (36.7%) had ever had sexual intercourse, with significantly more boys than girls. Higher percentages of boys initiated intercourse before age 14 and reported condom use. ("Sexual behaviours" category data by gender presented).
9. Tobacco Use: Past 30-day tobacco smoking was reported by 20.1%. Among ever smokers, >80% tried cigarettes before age 14. Exposure to others smoking was high (72.5%). (Data by gender: Boys 17.1%; Girls 22.4%).
10. Violence and Unintentional Injury: A significant minority reported physical fights (32.9-42.3%) and reported being seriously injured (32.7-42.6%). Bullying victimization was also common (22.8-24.5%). (Data by gender: Boys 42.3%; Girls 24.8%).
