报告摘要
Laos - Savannakhet GYTS Summary (Ages 13-15)
- Methodology: A school-based survey conducted in 2007 with a two-stage cluster sampling design, including schools, classes, and student participation. Response rates were high (98.1% overall), involving 2,197 students aged 13-15. Data collected on tobacco use prevalence and determinants such as access, secondhand smoke exposure, cessation, media, and school curriculum.
- Prevalence: High rates of tobacco use among youth. Ever smoked cigarettes: 10.3% (higher among boys, 17.5%, vs. girls, 3.1%). Current tobacco use: 9.1% (boys 14.5%, girls 3.8%); cigarette smoking: 5.9% (boys 11.2%, girls 0.9%); use of other tobacco products: 5.0% (boys 6.5%, girls 3.6%).
- Determinants:
- Access/Availability: 14.9% smoke at home; 50.2% live with parental tobacco smoking, and 60.9% are exposed outside homes. Media exposure includes anti-smoking messages (90.8%), pro-cigarette ads (57.7% on billboards, 56.9% in print), and 10.0% offered free cigarettes by tobacco companies.
- Secondhand Smoke (SHS): 50.2% exposed at home; 60.9% in public places, with 61.0% believing smoke is harmful and 49.0% supporting public bans—over half (55.1%) have parental smokers.
- Cessation: 98.2% of current smokers want to quit, with 85.5% attempting cessation in the past year and 86.7% receiving quitting help.
- School Factors: 59.3% taught about smoking dangers, 35.2% discussed youth smoking reasons, 52.2% learned tobacco effects.
- Highlights: High youth tobacco use prevalence and SHS exposure indicate significant health risks. Media influences with pro-cigarette content may hinder control efforts, and strong cessation intent suggests potential for effective interventions.
