报告摘要
Human infections with avian influenza A(H5N1) have been reported to WHO from 2003 to 5 March 2012, totaling 594 laboratory-confirmed cases, of which 349 deaths occurred in 15 countries. Between January and 3 March 2012, 16 cases were reported, with 10 new cases in February and March 2012 from Indonesia (2 cases), Egypt (4 cases), Vietnam (1 case), and Bangladesh (3 cases).
H5N1 virus is endemic in poultry in countries such as China, Egypt, Indonesia, Viet Nam, Bangladesh, and India, with sporadic reintroduction in Cambodia. The epidemiological curve shows higher cases in winter months, aligning with bird outbreaks seasonally.
Three cases from Bangladesh involved mild symptoms and full recovery, linked to live bird markets. Other cases were sporadic, predominantly from backyard poultry contact. Public health risk assessment indicates expected increases in poultry outbreaks and human cases during this period, with ongoing investigations.
Additional information on other animal influenza viruses is available, but focus remains on H5N1. Relevance links to WHO, OIE, and FAO resources are provided for detailed updates.
