报告摘要
Malta has a cervical cancer incidence rate of 5.9 per 100,000 women in 2020, with 3.7 age-standardized incidence per 100,000 and a cumulative risk of 0.4% by age 74. In 2019, there were 1,900 deaths, resulting in a mortality-to-incidence ratio of 0.38. A population-based cancer registry is in place (2021).
For primary prevention, an HPV vaccination program operates with 85% coverage among girls in 2020. HPV is included in the national vaccination program, introduced in 2013 targeting ages 12. Overall coverage is high, with 97% of girls fully vaccinated by age 15. Risk factors include tobacco use (19% prevalence among women aged 15+ in 2020), though HIV incidence data is unavailable.
Secondary prevention includes a national cervical cancer screening program using cytology, available to women aged 25-35 (Target range), with 86% screened in the last 5 years and 92% having ever been screened. Programs exist for early detection and referral systems up to secondary and tertiary care.
Treatment and supportive care are well-supported by national guidelines, numerous radiotherapy and brachytherapy units, specialized personnel (e.g., 22 radiation oncologists), and a cancer center. Palliative care is available for non-communicable diseases in the public system.
WHO elimination strategy targets for 2030 are aligned, with Malta aiming to reduce cervical cancer through increased vaccination and screening.
