报告摘要
Paraguay - Asuncion Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) Summary
The Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) conducted in Paraguay's Asuncion in 2003 targeted students aged 13-15, specifically grades 7, 8, and 9, using a two-stage cluster sampling approach based on probability proportional to enrollment. The survey covered 1,300 students with a high overall response rate of 87%. Key findings reveal high tobacco use among youth: 39.5% had ever smoked cigarettes, 25.7% currently used any tobacco product, and 19.1% smoked cigarettes regularly. Other tobacco products were used by 10.0% of respondents.
Important determinants showing high prevalence include exposure to secondhand smoke (SHS), influenced by 35.6% having parents who smoke and 78.0% believing smoking should be banned in public places. Over 40% lived in homes where others smoked, and nearly all students (93.7%) were exposed to SHS in various settings. Strong cessation intentions exist, with 47.6% of current smokers wanting to quit, and many receiving help.
Media effects are significant, as 90.8% saw pro-tobacco ads over the past 30 days, while 85.3% were exposed to anti-smoking messages. School programs were reported by 69.6% of students, covering tobacco dangers and peer influence.
Overall, the survey highlights the need for comprehensive tobacco control measures focusing on prevention, cessation support, and policies against youth tobacco use.
