报告摘要
Green hydrogen plays a crucial role in industrial decarbonization for the Central Asia and South Caucasus region, which includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Despite significant renewable energy potential and industrial needs for decarbonization, the region faces challenges such as dependence on fossil fuels, low renewable energy deployment, and policy gaps. The report highlights opportunities for green hydrogen in hard-to-abate sectors, while recommending phased development with a focus on domestic applications, infrastructure modernization, and skill building.
Key drivers include Paris Agreement commitments, high solar and wind resources, raw material availability, and industrial targets for decarbonization. Barriers involve the absence of national hydrogen strategies, low electricity prices, grid limitations, and water scarcity in some countries. Recommendations include developing comprehensive hydrogen strategies, enhancing renewable energy policies, addressing water management, and fostering international cooperation.
The region can leverage green hydrogen for energy security, job creation, and economic diversification through targeted policy actions and investments.
