Influenza B Candidate Vaccine Viruses for 2023-2024 Season

This document details the influenza B Victoria lineage candidate vaccine viruses chosen for production of vaccines for the 2023-2024 northern hemisphere influenza season. The strains recommended were B/Austria/1359417/2021 and B/Michigan/01/2021.

All candidate vaccine viruses undergo antigenic and genetic analysis by Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS) WHO Collaborating Centers. Unless otherwise noted, viruses approved are confirmed by two-way haemagglutination inhibition (HI) testing. National or regional control authorities must approve vaccine composition and formulation for each country's use.
