报告摘要
This 2023 Global Retail Development Index™ report highlights key trends driving retail growth, especially in developing nations. Ongoing e-commerce growth, projected to double brick-and-mortar retail growth at 10-12% CAGR until 2027 globally, is fueled by expanding digital marketplaces, particularly in urban areas with younger populations. Omnichannel retail remains pivotal, with store-based retailers investing in fulfillment and services like in-store pickup.
Digital payments, including e-wallets and BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later), are rapidly gaining traction, enhancing convenience, especially in the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions where BNPL growth is notably faster. Retail AI is being leveraged for immersive shopping experiences (e.g., virtual avatars, livestreams) and personalized services.
Countries ranked in the GRDI, such as Saudi Arabia (jumped nine places due to economic diversification, Vision 2030 reforms), India (top-ranked), China, and others, show varying drivers:
- MEA (Middle East & Africa): Features a growing young, urban, affluent population, rising female labor force participation, and price sensitivity pushing discounters/ hypermarkets and BNPL adoption. Egypt and Türkiye show steady growth. Africa's low retail saturation presents opportunities.
- China: Despite macro headwinds, its massive retail market (over 50% of global transactions), digital infrastructure, and innovation (livestreaming, social commerce, social-media marketing) drive growth, albeit slowed by debt and demographics.
Challenges like inflation, currency devaluation, supply chain disruptions, and political uncertainty persist across these regions, slowing growth in some markets. However, the rise of e-commerce (global market expected to reach $3.79 trillion by 2027), logistics investment (dark stores, q-commerce/delivery growth), and government initiatives (e-commerce policies, digital transformation) create significant opportunities, especially in regions or countries with low digital penetration. Global retailers need to navigate these shifts strategically, tailoring approaches to regional characteristics and leveraging technology for growth.
