Survey Overview
- Methodology: Two-stage cluster sampling; data from 1,991 students aged 13-15 (91.6% response rate).

Prevalence
- Ever Smoked Cigarettes: 9.5% (13.6% male, 4.6% female).
- Current Use:
- 11.0% used any tobacco product (12.5% male, 8.2% female).
- 3.5% smoked cigarettes (4.3% male, 2.1% female).
- 9.0% used other tobacco products (10.3% male, 6.9% female).
Access & Availability
- 11.3% smoked at home, 29.8% bought cigarettes from stores.
- 27.1% lived in homes with smoking parents; 26.0% had one or more parents who smoke.
Exposure to Secondhand Smoke (SHS)
- 41.1% were exposed to SHS outside home.
- 41.1% in indoor public places; 3 in 10 (30.0%) directly exposed outside.
- High supportive attitudes: 81.7% favor smoking bans in public; 66.9% recognize harm from SHS.
Intervention & Education
- 89.1% received cessation support.
- Media/Mass Media:
- 71.0% saw anti-smoking ads past 30 days (vs. 28.9% pro-cigarette ads on billboards).
- School Education:
- 55.8% received tobacco危害 lessons; 37.7% had class discussions on youth smoking barriers.
- 97.0%+ view smoking in public places as unacceptable (MPOWER target supported).
Brand Exposure & Marketing
- 9.7% possess cigarette brand items; 5.0% offered free cigarettes by industry.
- Pro-industry advertising (billboards/newspapers) counterbalanced anti-tobacco messages.
Key Conclusions
- High disparities in tobacco use by gender & socioeconomic factors.
- Supportive youth attitudes & strong family norms against smoking in public.
- Effective school-based educational programs noted; however, industry marketing efforts remain significant.
