Introduction
This report evaluates summer retreat cities in China using a multidimensional approach. It was developed by the DigitalLivingLab at Tongji University in collaboration with several colleges, focusing on factors such as summer climate, medical conditions, transportation, urban environment, cultural aspects, tourism resources, and commercial environment. The goal is to identify top cities for summer travel.
Methodology
The analysis uses data collection and algorithm-based evaluation to score cities across seven key dimensions. Cities were ranked based on radar charts and comparative data, covering regions like Northeast, Southwest, East, and Northwest China. The assessment aims to support sustainable development and digital innovation in travel and living experiences.
Key Findings
- Top-Ranked Cities: Northeast China dominated with cities such as Dalian (scores: 7650/medical, 7066/generation), Harbin (8293/medical), Changchun, and Shanghai, excelling in summer climate. Southwest China led with Kunming (medical: 8293, climate: 7052) and Dali, highlighting strengths in climate and tourism. East China's Qingdao and Yantai showed strong performance, while Northwest China had varied scores but emphasized tourism.
- Regional Comparisons:
- Northeast: Strong in climate but lagged in healthcare and transportation outside major hubs.
- Southwest: Benefitted from excellent climate but needed improvements in healthcare and transportation connectivity.
- East and Northwest China: Showed balanced or niche strengths, with Eastern cities like Qingdao excelling in commercial environment, and Northwest having higher tourism scores but weaker climate.
Conclusion
Summer retreat demand in China is rising due to lifestyle trends and technological advancements. Cities should prioritize investments in healthcare, transportation, and sustainable practices to enhance travel experiences. Future development should integrate digital tools for smarter management, ensuring eco-friendly and culturally rich environments for travelers and residents.
