报告摘要
This report highlights the escalating cybersecurity threats facing manufacturers in an increasingly digital world. Key findings include statistics from Exhibit 1, where over 50% of companies in industries such as automotive chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and finance have experienced data theft, industrial espionage, or sabotage in the past two years. The World Economic Forum ranks cybercrime as a top global risk, with high-tech nations like Germany and the US being prime targets for sophisticated attacks that have surged tenfold in six years.
Challenges involve inadequate preparedness among manufacturers, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, who often lack comprehensive threat understanding and mitigation strategies. The traditional role of IT departments is insufficient, necessitating a holistic approach encompassing technology, organization, governance, and culture. Exhibit 2 provides a structured process for protection: identifying key information assets, assessing risks, defining risk appetite, closing gaps, planning, implementing measures, and ensuring continuous improvement through employee training and leadership involvement, such as appointing a chief information security officer.
Real-world incidents, like a German steel mill hack causing significant damage, underscore the urgent need for action. Failure to implement robust cybersecurity can lead to severe consequences, and governments are responding by creating centers for information sharing and mandating advanced security measures. Companies must prioritize this to improve resilience and avoid further cybercrime incidents.
