报告摘要
Cyprus has a total population of approximately 1.165 million and is classified in the high income group. Diabetes mortality is relatively low, with deaths attributed to high blood glucose showing few cases, particularly in age groups 30-69 years (less than 100 for both males and females), while higher numbers are observed in those aged 70+ (150 for males and 230 for females). Diabetes accounts for about 10% of total deaths, making it a significant non-communicable disease (NCD) burden, alongside cardiovascular diseases and other NCDs, which together constitute over 80% of age-adjusted mortality.
Globally, diabetes prevalence is 7.8%, with high rates of overweight (61.8%) and obesity (24.5%) noted, along with widespread physical inactivity (35.3%) as key risk factors.
The country has a national response to diabetes, including an operational strategy, available guidelines, a diabetes registry, and access to basic medicines and technologies like insulin and blood glucose measurement in primary care. Efforts to reduce overweight, obesity, and physical inactivity are documented, though no recent national risk factor survey included blood glucose measurement.
