Financial Innovation Monitoring
The EBA monitors financial innovations to assess their risks and benefits, focusing on areas such as consumer protection, financial stability, and market integrity. It has been working on various innovations since 2011, including:
- Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and Contracts for Difference (CfDs) (2013)
- Virtual Currencies (2014)
- Crowdfunding (2015)
- Automation in Financial Advice (2015)
In 2015, the EBA, along with ESMA and EIOPA, issued a Discussion Paper on automation in financial advice to gather insights on the benefits and risks. The consultation period ended on 4 March 2016. The EBA is also examining new data usage practices by financial institutions, including the combination of internal and external data sources, and aims to publish findings in Q2 2016.

EBA Guidelines
The EBA publishes guidelines to ensure consistent and effective supervisory practices across the EU. These are only formally issued once published in all relevant EU languages. Competent authorities must inform the EBA on their compliance or reasons for non-compliance within two months.

EBA Technical Standards
