Belgium's Measures for Ukrainian Refugees Under EU Temporary Protection System

Eligibility for Temporary Protection

• Ukrainian nationals residing in Ukraine before February 24, 2022.
• Stateless persons and nationals of third countries who received protection in Ukraine before February 24, 2022.
• Family members of eligible individuals.
• Not applicable to those already legally residing in other EU member states or third countries, requiring normal procedures for residency and work permits.

Application Process

• As of March 7, 2022, eligible individuals can apply in person at the registration center located at 121 Boulevard de Waterloo, Brussels, between 8:30 AM and distributing slots throughout the day.
• Upon application and fulfillment of conditions, a temporary protection certificate is issued, leading to an A-card valid for up to two years, allowing legal stay and work.

Work Authorization

• The A-card enables individuals to work legally in Belgium, with renewals possible for up to a total of two years.
• This support reduces the need for international protection and aids Belgian companies with Ukrainian employees.

Additional Information

• Belgium provides assistance through the "Assistance in Belgium" website (https://info-ukraine.be/en/).
• COVID-19 travel restrictions do not apply to fleeing Ukrainian citizens.
