I. Epidemiological Situation (Week 21-25)

• Total Cases (2,016): Burkina Faso reported the highest, with 351 cases and a 14.8% lethality rate.
• District-Level Alerts/Epidemics: No districts in Burkina Faso, Benin, Mali, Niger, etc. crossed epidemiological thresholds, except for specific alerts noted in Benin and Togo.
• Lethality: High in Benin (28.0%), Nigeria (12.8%), Cote d'Ivoire (28.0%). Lower in Mali (7.4%), Niger (10.9%).
• Meningococcal Strains: NmA remains predominant. High proportion of NmW135 found in Togo and Benin.

II. Synthesis (Weeks 01-25 2007)

• Cumulative Cases (36,916): Burkina Faso led with 2,598 cases; Nigeria (2,470) and Chad (1,065) followed closely.
• Epidemic Thresholds: Burkina Faso had 43/55 districts in epidemic conditions; Togo (4 districts), Mali (1), Central Africa (1), and Cote d'Ivoire (2) also noted.
• Mortality Rate: Benin (291 cases, 53 deaths), Central Africa, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, and Mali reported high lethality, with Benin noted for its attack rates overall.

III. Laboratory Data (Weeks 01-25 2007)

• Found Prevalent: Burkina Faso, Niger, and Togo compiled the bulk of PCR and Lab results for N m aN meningitidis-related strains.
• Pathogens: Predominance of NmA in isolates noted, with rising incidences of NmW135 especially in Togo and Benin.

IV. Graphical Representation & Trends

• Maps (Figures 1 & 2): Showed attack rates per district, with the highest incidences in Nigeria and Burkina Faso.
