Network Virtual Meeting Summary

A virtual meeting for Network focal points was held 25-26 May 2021, with attendance from over 60 institutions. The meeting featured presentations and discussions on six topic areas in plenary and breakout sessions, aiming to inform and guide future Network direction. An organizing committee assisted with arrangements, and another virtual meeting is planned by year-end.

Webinar Series

The Network's webinar series continued in 2021, covering topics such as identifying emerging chemical risks and carcinogenic hazards via the IARC Monographs. Recordings and materials are available on the SharePoint site. Webinars on chemical incident response, now available in French and Spanish with translations for words, slides, and polls, are distributed by the WHO Secretariat to aid accessibility.

Department of Environment, Climate Change and Health: Latest Publications

A manual was published on investigating disease outbreaks linked to e-waste exposure, providing methods for public health professionals. Ethical principles for human biomonitoring studies were also issued. Additionally, an addendum updated estimates on the burden of disease from chemical exposures, including high impacts in artisanal small-scale gold mining, with data from low-documentation chemicals.

Network Funded Activities

Due to travel restrictions, the Network supports local activities by funding small amounts for events like risk assessment seminars, poison centers discussions, and publication translations into languages such as Russian, Amharic, and Persian, alongside collaborations in online speaker provision.
