Use Patterns & Demographics

• Usage was highest among adults aged 18-29 (92%).
• Non-white adults (Hispanic and Black) showed notably higher usage (76%-79% vs. ~70% for white adults) and were also more frequent users.
• Parents (81%) were significantly more likely to use video-sharing sites than non-parents (61%).
• Rural internet users showed increased adoption rates, closing the gap with urban and suburban users in overall participation.

Context

• Growth was attributed to the increasing volume of content on sites like YouTube and user-generated contributions.
• Mobile usage also grew, with notable adoption of video recording and viewing on smartphones.

Methodology Note:

• Data from a landline and cell phone survey (N=2,277 adults) conducted in April 22nd to May 22nd, 2011. Margin of error +/- 2-3 percentage points depending on the subgroup.
